Johnny Ingles – Head Carpenter 1934-1949
Fondly known as Jongles Ongles, worked as the head carpenter for the estate for over 10 years. His workshop is now the newly renovated heritage centre that you are standing in. Johnny made many of the wooden windows on the estate and the oak staircase that still stands in the main hall of the castle. The Late 14th Earl of Antrim has fond memories of Jongles Ongles making him wooden aeroplanes when he was boy. During World War 2, Glenarm Castle Grounds were used as a training camp for American soldiers and this is where the young lord spent his days playing with his wooden aeroplanes made by Johnny Ingles.
